PE and Sport

Here at Our Lady's, we strive to give every child many positive and varied sporting experiences. Apart from the obvious health benefits, these activities develop self-confidence, as well as teaching children about valuable life skills such as determination, resilience and teamwork.

Within our PE lessons we offer a wide range of activities which are led by our specialist coaches (Tuesdays and Fridays) as well as our teachers include

  • Game skills and team games
  • Gymnastics, both floor and apparatus work
  • Dance
  • Swimming (year 4)
  • Football
  • Netball
  • Cricket
  • Rugby
  • Athletics
  • Badminton
  • Yoga
  • OAA

In Year 6 the children have the opportunity to attend a three-day residential trip to an outdoor adventure centre in Wales. While there, the children take part in activities such as canoeing, climbing and raft building. The whole trip is a never-to-be forgotten experience and great way for the children to end the school year together!

In Year 4, children also get the opportunity to attend a two day residential trip to an outdoor adventure centre in Delemere Forest. The children will explore the forest, walk across streams, build dens and relax around a camp fire. This is a fabulous experience for the children!

Every year at school, we hold a Sports Day to give children the opportunity ti take part in a range of activities where the emphasis is on having a go and enjoyment with an element of competition. Sports Day is ran by our specialist coaches alongside PE coordinator. This is a really special day and an opportunity for parents to visit school and join in with the fun!

At Our Lady's we also enjoy taking part in competitions against other schools in our area. We aim to take part in competitions that provide opportunities for both KS1 and KS2 children.

After school we also offer a wide range of sports clubs ran by our teaches, specialist PE coaches and also outside agencies. We offer activities for both KS1 and KS2. The clubs on offer change throughout the school year to allow a wide range of activities to be provided.

Playtimes are an opportunity for our pupils to be active. At breaktimes all pupils have access to football, basketball, skipping, running track, trim trail, hola hoops, mini golf and traditional playground games. All year five pupils are trained as playleaders and have a designated day to carry out this responsibility and engage all pupils in active play.
